Are You Happy Now?
A group of friends and I were having a discussion about happiness. Various people took turns chiming in on the topic.
The conversation included a number of different comments. One person shared that they were rediscovering what made them happy, another about the fact that they seemed to focus more on what made them unhappy, and yet another listed specific things that made them happy.
The epiphany for me came when someone talked about living in the present moment by asking themselves, “What makes me happy now?”
I don’t know why, but this simple statement seemed incredibly empowering.
Here’s how I interpreted what they said: You choose how happy you are … you hold the power to do something or think something different that would make you happy! Being happy is a choice and it can be made in a nanosecond.
You don’t have to wait to lose 5 lbs, have a different job, partner, career, etc..
Happiness is there for the taking every second of every day … you just have to choose to be happy.
So are you happy now? Or are you allowing some situation you have no control over or someone else determine your level of happiness?
If you’re turning your happiness over to someone else I have one question for you:
Why would you take something so precious and hand it over to someone else to do what they want with it?
Doesn’t make sense … does it!
We have a saying in Coaching when a client is doing something they know they shouldn’t because it doesn’t make sense.
Okay, lean in and listen because it is very profound …
STOP IT!
Wanna be happy … watch this!
