“Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall, Humpty Dumpty had a great fall, All the king’s horses and all the king’s men, Couldn’t put Humpty together again.”
~Samuel Arnold
There has been much debate about whether Humpty Dumpty was actually an egg or not. The point here is that whatever he was, he certainly didn’t have a whole lot of resiliency when it came to bouncing back from his fall.
On any given day, we might be met with news or information that we dread that feels overwhelming.
It might be a business related matter – You didn’t get the contract renewal, you lost the big order, you didn’t get your dream job, you lose what you thought was the perfect job, or maybe your star employee hands you their resignation letter and says “I’m leaving,”
It could be personal in nature – You receive a discouraging lab report, a phone call informing you that someone you love passed away, or someone you love is walking away.
What Are You Making it Mean?
Whatever the situation, whatever the circumstance, how you frame the event and what you make that event mean in your mind determines your ability to bounce back.
Yes, you may be in a painful place at that moment in time. However, you don’t have to stay in that painful place forever!
Sometimes the difference between bouncing back and cracking is the choice you make to trust, or not to trust!
Sometimes You Just Have To Trust…
In many of these instances you may find that was is causing the greatest angst, is thinking you have control over a situation that you have absolutely no control over, especially when it comes to the actions of others!
The reality is this, the only thing you actually have 100% control over is what you think. In other words, what meaning you apply to an event, situation, or person as you view it through your Lenses of Perception.
In the end, it all boils down to trust, you either trust things will work out or you don’t!
And that decision, sets the foundation for your ability to bounce back (or not) or how quickly you bounce back (or not).
Trust + Belief = Resiliency
If you want to bounce back from adversity here are 3 things you must trust and believe. The faster you embrace these truths, the faster you will bounce back.
- TRUST – that things will get better. There will always be better opportunities, relationships, contracts, employees, or jobs. You will always find what you set your focus on – focus on what you want.
- TRUST – the process. Believe that everything unfolds exactly as it need to be. It doesn’t matter if you agree with the current situation, facts, decision, or whether or not you like how it is unfolding. Always trust the process.
- TRUST – and let go. Sometimes we have to let go of people, jobs, relationships, opportunities, or something we love so that we can make room for something or someone new.
Your ability to trust and the depth of your trust determines your ability and the speed in which you will bounce back!
In other words…
Be the ball and not the egg!
