“We do well to unplug regularly. Quiet time restores focus and composure.” ~Daniel Goleman
At certain times in the career of a leader, you may find yourself feeling exhausted, a bit lost, a little confused, or simply stressed out. With the holidays upon us, it can either be a great time to continue to stress out or it can be a great time to unplug.
As a leader, maybe you’re bored with your work and find yourself simply going through the motions. It could be a time where you’re just worn down after an extremely challenging year, both personally and professionally. Or it simply might be all the stress and strain that the upcoming holiday season can bring when you think about sitting across from your Uncle Dave, yes the one with no-filters who always seems to drink too many Schlitz beers at Thanksgiving and bring up the most inappropriate topics..
When this happens, a lot of leaders have a propensity to tough it out. They push harder and faster, thinking more effort will help them get back on track or at least help them power thru the challenges. Unfortunately, pushing harder doesn’t always work!
Better to Unplug?
Sometimes the best thing a leader can do is unplug, stop thinking, and/or reflect on everything they have accomplished and all the things they are grateful for.
The year is coming to a close and a new year is upon us, taking time away from all the stress and commotion can give you a new and refreshed outlook.
Whether it is a few hours, a few days , or yes, even a few weeks, you may find that when you arrive at a conclusion, you will have arrived at a familiar place and it will look completely different, or it may be a whole new path and a whole new destination.
Either way, unplugging is an amazing way to replenish the fuel tanks and refresh yourself.
I hope you will take sometime this holiday season to unplug!
Have a Wonderful Holiday Season!
