“Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you’ll start having positive results.” ~Willie Nelson
You’ve heard the saying, “garbage in…garbage out.”
When it comes to your thoughts and your words, the same principle applies. What you think determines not only what you say but more importantly, what you do.
You’ve probably heard these sayings before: “What you sow is what you reap, be careful who you hang out with it is who you will become, thoughts become things choose your thoughts wisely, and many others. Yet, how many of us still fill our minds with thoughts, ideas, images, media, that do nothing but negatively impact our beliefs and in turn what we do and what we say?
Me & My Thoughts
I spent a good part of my life trying to control external factors. All those external things that I had/have absolutely no control over. I can also honestly say that I hadn’t always done the best job in always controlling the one and only thing that I truly can control. Yup you got it – MY THOUGHTS!
Which begs the question: How much time do you waste worrying or trying to control something or someone you have absolutely no control over? By the way, even if you think you do, you really don’t. The truth is you can’t control others, as hard as you may try, especially if you’re a leader.
Which begs another question: What if you could change all that? What if you could shift your perception and create a moment, a day, a week, or a lifetime of more positivity and more happiness?
You & Your Thoughts
Here is a challenge for you, just for today. If it doesn’t work, you can chalk it up to a lesson learned and never have to do it again. However if it does work, I can’t see why you wouldn’t do it everyday.
So here it is:
- Just for today, set the timer on your phone to go off at the top of each hour.
- When the alarm goes off ask yourself 2 questions.
- Was the hour I just spent experiencing, thinking, or saying, positive and uplifting?
- If you answer yes, reset the alarm until the next hour and give yourself an atta boy (girl).
- If you answered no, ask yourself: So what would I need to do to shift it to be more positive and uplifting for the next hour?
- And then just do it!
You Create Your Day
My dear friend and colleague Shawna Schuh has a favorite saying, “You create your day by the way you think!”
So when it’s all said and done, if you really do create your day by the way you think, why not choose to have a good day by filling your mind with good thoughts?
Can you imagine the positive words and actions that would follow? Can you imagine the positive impact you would have on your world and the world of those whom you interact with today?
Just think…we could change the world just for one day.
And if we keep it up we might change it permanently…I’m absolutely positive of it!
